We stopped in Austin, TX yesterday. Austin is a cool city, our goal was to relax a bit and see some bats. Austin has a cave/cavern in downtown that has a huge number of bats in it that fly out each night to rid the city of bugs and mosquitos, supposedly…..
Why supposedly? Well, they decided not to show last night. So we didn’t see this enormous cloud of bats come out from their cave. Neither did the couple hundred other people who came out to watch. Sometimes critters just don’t cooperate.
A fun thing that happened during the wait last night was that we had several people wander by and ask what everyone was waiting and watching for. Quite the reaction when we told them what was going on. It was fun.
Gretchen has wanted to see these particular bats for years. She was understandably sad about the lack of them. We’re going to Carlsbad Caverns National Park tomorrow through Saturday. Our first 2 night stay of the trip. Hopefully we’ll get to see the bats leave the caves there, wish us luck!
